VLOMO2010-Day16-Photo Challenge

Todays VLOMO moment is brought to you by PixelCorps.com. I spent a few hours this morning wandering the paths and trails of Fullerton, and the railway tracks and train station, looking for interesting photographic shots. PXC is an online guild of digital media professionals and a place for learning and self-development. One of the ways they do this is to set challenges for its members and offer mentoring to fulfill them. Many challenges pass without my partaking simply due to the investment of time required, but the challenges easiest for me to play along with are the photography ones. Today I was looking for Doors, Window, Concrete, Cast Iron reference, and Composing with Depth, and Objects From A Unique Angle. I had a lovely walk and got to practice my camera work. A successful day in my book.

Click to Play On a chill but pleasent spring morning, our little Sprite finds many an amusement in the back garden wonderland of fallen leaves, puddles, dirt and all manner of things to get himself filthy dirty and soaking wet. Oh well, boys will be boys. Anyhow, it keeps him busy and occupied for a time. Even if it means we have to rake up the leaves again after the G-Express ploughed through them for the umpteenth time.

iPrincipal : My Thoughts on Technology in Elementary School

A few weeks ago I received a request from the local school district to fill out an online survey that was focused on the use of technology in our elementary schools. This followed an event at my son's elementary school that was an opportunity for parents to see how the school planned to make use of modern technologies in it's educational curriculum. The evenings presentations were orchestrated by Ted Lai, the Director of Technology and Media Services for Fullerton School District, who had been guiding several programs that had children as young as Kindergarten and First Grade creating media as part of their education. Of course, this appealed to me immensely. As a media creator myself I totally appreciate the value storytelling has in society, and am very excited kids are getting a chance to discover this for themselves. Just Like A Liquor Store, We Got Whines And Spirit

So it turns out our child is a rare breed. A specimen of American society found in only 10-15% of children. Much to our chagrin he is not an exceptionally gifted genius. No, our rare breed is 'spirited' as defined in the book "Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka. ElectricMommy was doing some research on the internets, trying to find out if The Sprite's bossy, rowdy and explosive behavior was within the realm of normal toddlerdom, and found many a reference to the above mentioned book. It was clear after the first chapter that our little monster is a prototypical Spirited Child, displaying every trait that defines such character. Most of these traits are off the chart to the extreme. So what are these traits that make-up such a child? They are more intense, hyper sensitive and emotional, extremely perceptive, stubbornly persistent, and excruciatingly resistant to change.
