Tickle Time with Mummy

Back in June we went camping up in Santa Cruz, CA at one of the KOA chain of campgrounds. KOA are great as they really cater to families. There are all kinds of events and activities for kids and parents. Parents can really relax, their children run around and have fun without us having to worry about the safety or whereabouts of them. There was an endless stream of kids on rental banana bikes cruising the campground all weekend. Kids ruled that joint.
On the Saturday there was a movie screening and marshmallow roast down in the lower field. They had one of those inflatable screens and a projector setup. It was cold too, evidenced by the coats and gloves, up on the NorCal coast. Waiting for the movie to start, The Sprite and ElectricMommy had a tickle showdown. I love these clips as they remind me how much fun we had and how happy we all were on that vacation. All three of us really enjoyed ourselves.

Click to Play On a chill but pleasent spring morning, our little Sprite finds many an amusement in the back garden wonderland of fallen leaves, puddles, dirt and all manner of things to get himself filthy dirty and soaking wet. iPrincipal : My Thoughts on Technology in Elementary School

A few weeks ago I received a request from the local school district to fill out an online survey that was focused on the use of technology in our elementary schools. This followed an event at my son's elementary school that was an opportunity for parents to see how the school planned to make use of modern technologies in it's educational curriculum. The evenings presentations were orchestrated by Ted Lai, the Director of Technology and Media Services for Fullerton School District, who had been guiding several programs that had children as young as Kindergarten and First Grade creating media as part of their education. Of course, this appealed to me immensely. As a media creator myself I totally appreciate the value storytelling has in society, and am very excited kids are getting a chance to discover this for themselves. Just Like A Liquor Store, We Got Whines And Spirit

So it turns out our child is a rare breed. A specimen of American society found in only 10-15% of children. Much to our chagrin he is not an exceptionally gifted genius. No, our rare breed is 'spirited' as defined in the book "Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka. ElectricMommy was doing some research on the internets, trying to find out if The Sprite's bossy, rowdy and explosive behavior was within the realm of normal toddlerdom, and found many a reference to the above mentioned book. It was clear after the first chapter that our little monster is a prototypical Spirited Child, displaying every trait that defines such character. Most of these traits are off the chart to the extreme. So what are these traits that make-up such a child? They are more intense, hyper sensitive and emotional, extremely perceptive, stubbornly persistent, and excruciatingly resistant to change.
